BORN WITH CIVILIZATION
People have been brewing beer as long as they’ve been farming grains. Ancient civilizations around the world likened the fermentation process to magic, and believed that beer was a gift from the gods to make us happy.
However beer wasn’t always complicated, nor was it brewed from the same ingredients as it is today.
Inspired by time-honored traditions, we set out to make a craft beer for the modern era. Combining the natural goodness of ancient grains, and an all-natural brewing process, we believe we are bringing something new and exciting to the world of beer, while taking beer back to its essence.
ANCIENT GRAINS, MODERN CRAFT.
Golden Era has a fruity hop aroma, and a crisp yet complex flavour that will delight you. It’s brewed from nothing more than four gluten-free ingredients: Quinoa, Buckwheat, Millet and Liberty Hops. Our beer unpasteurized and it's carbonation is natural, with a 4% ABV and 30 IBU.
BREWED FROM ANCIENT GRAINS
Whereas most beers come from wheat or barley, we brew with Quinoa, Millet, and Buckwheat. These grains have been used in brewing for millennia in their native regions and are intricately tied to local tradition. In the Andes, the Inca brewed Chicha from quinoa, and drank it during religious festivals in what is now Peru. In West Africa, millet beers have long been sold out of village family homes once a week, creating a gathering place for the village community.
As crops, ancient grains have remained untarnished by industrial farming practices, and closely resemble their ancestors when first discovered by humans. They are also naturally gluten-free, so our beer is too.
NATURE IS A BREWER
As an industry, beer has come so far that we’ve forgotten about its simple origins: the natural fermented brews made from water and grain. What could we learn from the ancients, who let nature do the brewing?
First and foremost, we let our beer ferment naturally. Golden Era is spontaneously carbonated during the interaction between the yeast and the grain sugars; not filled with CO2 like many modern beers. The process is slower, l but imparts more flavour into the brew and produces lighter, less harsh carbonation.
We also never pasteurize our beer, nor do we use additives or preservatives to affect appearance or shelf life. It’s beer the way nature intended, and the way we think beer should be. Your tastebuds will agree!
Golden Era began in 2016 in Brooklyn, NY. Founder Eli Libman picked up a book on the ancient history of beer, and immediately became fascinated with the brewing traditions of the past. Thousands of years ago, early civilizations made beer from from all kinds of ingredients, and considered the fermentation process sacred and magical. In an industry with so much innovation, it seemed like beer was only getting more fussy and complicated. Perhaps we had something to learn from the ancients, who kept it natural and simple.
So we decided to take beer back to its roots, which meant rethinking our process from the ground up. With backing from ZX Ventures, Eli got together with a team of amazing brewers and beer-lovers to bring Golden Era to life. Keep your eyes peeled – Golden Era arrives in London this Fall!
